(Humor and Melody)
September 1943
The premier of this Revue takes place on September 4th 1943 inaugurating Westerbork's newly rebuilt stage. But the yellow stars, worn even on the actor's costumes, remain a sobering reminder that there's more at stake here than cabaret.
It's no accident that, compared to the previous production, the number of persons involved has grown by considerable proportions; Max Ehrlich also has included numerous talented non-professionals in the troupe, both on-stage and behind the scenes. Everybody realizes that - even if only temporarily - being part of the production means safety from transport to the extermination camps in the East. So the Theater Group now includes pretty much all the positions normally found in a professional theater production.
The program contains 18 scenes, many of them based on Westerbork camp life.
With only limited exceptions, the speaking roles are held by German actors, in fact, German is the only language permitted on-stage by the camp commandant.
