Émigré est le fruit d’une collaboration entre l’Orchestre symphonique de Shanghai, l’Orchestre philharmonique de New York, Long Yu et Deutsche Grammophon.
L’oratorio a été soigneusement conçu sur cinq ans et a un livret de Mark Campbell, lauréat du prix Pulitzer, avec des paroles supplémentaires de Brock Walsh.
Inspiré de faits réels, Émigré traite d’un chapitre méconnu de la Seconde Guerre mondiale : l’accueil réservé par les habitants de Shanghai aux réfugiés juifs de l’Europe nazie dans les années 1930.
À la base, Émigré est une histoire d’amour qui est une parabole pour le monde. La tourmente qui déchire les couples dans l’histoire est le reflet de la façon dont le monde se déchire souvent.
L’œuvre sera interprétée par une distribution exceptionnelle de musiciens des États-Unis et de Chine sous la direction de Long Yu et sortira sous forme numérique le 2 février 2024.
